1A question about Man Empty A question about Man Thu May 30, 2013 1:56 am

The Gemara in Yoma 75b asks that if the Man was absorbed in their limbs with no excrement, then why did they need spades to cover their excrement? It answers, in the first answer, that this was for the food they bought from tagarim, itinerant tradesmen who sold them food. My question is: why did it not mention the Slav? According to the Ramban, they had Slav during almost all of their time in the Midbar. One would think that since they ate Slav every day, and only bought from tagarim sometimes, that the Slav would be the logical answer. My conjectured answer is that since the Slav was also miraculous in nature, it too was absorbed completely in their bodies, but I did not yet find anyone saying this. Does anyone have any ideas here? Also, does anyone know if the spades were needed also to cover urination, or only defecation? I have not checked. Thank you.

Though I don't have the quote in front of me, I remember seeing (and later heard from R' Moshe Hauer shlit"a) that according to the Nefesh Hachaim, even the korbonos that they ate in the midbar were absorbed into their bodies like the mann.

Thank you, R' Michoel. Of course, the Nefesh HaChayim may have been going in the 2nd Shita in Yoma (R' Elazar Ben Parta) who says that the Man even purified the food bought from the Tagarim, and the shovels were only needed after they complained (הלחם הקלוקל). According to that opinion, everything they ate, whether Kodesh or not, was fully absorbed, even food bought from נכרים. My question is more on the first opinion who exempts food bought from Tagarim who are נכרים. Would he also exempt everything else, besides the Mann, and if so, would he exempt the Slav, meaning that only the Mann was completely absorbed and not everything else. Or would he say that specifically food bought from נכרים was not absorbed, but Slav, Korbanos, etc. being either Kodesh or miraculous was absorbed. Since he does not bring the Slav, I suspect that he holds the latter opinion.

Rav Hauer shlit"a gave me the actual reference: Ruach Chaim, perek 3, on the mishnah שלשה שאכלו על שלחן אחד
And indeed it does mention korbonos specifically, not according to R' Elazar ben Prata, see his exact words.

Thank you, Michoel. I will try and look into this Ruach Chaim.
