Here and several later places, the gemara brings a disagreement about the avnet of a regular cohen. Everyone agrees that the cohen gadol's avnet was shatnez, the question is whether the same is true of the avnet of a regular cohen.
This week's parsha is Pikudei, and I noted with interest the section on making the avnet, and comparing it with parshas Tetzaveh. There is the command, and it says
In this week's parsha:
I would say that leaves the question open.
This week's parsha is Pikudei, and I noted with interest the section on making the avnet, and comparing it with parshas Tetzaveh. There is the command, and it says
Doesn't say anything about shatnez, just מעשה רקם - embroidered work. It does mention a separate command for the regular cohanim. In this week's parsha:
Note that the כתנות are in the plural, for both Aharon and his sons: they are the same. The מזנפת is singular, just for Aharon, and his sons get מגבעות, and both get מכסיים. Then the avnet is in the singular, doesn't say for whom, and here it adds all the materials, making it shatnez.I would say that leaves the question open.
